Environmental restoration of coasts, estuaries and lakes
After getting off the elevator and turning to the left, you would see a seminar room and then staff rooms on the left-hand side. Room 612 is for secretary and research associate as well as for public use, including tea and coffee servers, public books, and stationery. Student Rooms 618 and 619 are located on the right-hand side (this photo is Room 618). A desk and desktop PC are allocated for each student. A laser printer is available in each student room.
The Estuarine and Coastal Eng. Lab. have two 2-dimensional wave-making channels (LWH=17m x 0.5m x 0.6m, 17m x 0.6m x 0.6m) in its hydraulic experiment building. In the third-year undergraduate students' Urban Environment Experiments and Exercises A, experiments on wave velocity and shallow water deformation are conducted using these channels. Experiments using these tanks are also conducted as part of graduation, master's, and doctoral research.
All students are requested to attend the weekly seminar to report their
research progress and to exchange information as well as to polish their
presentation skills.
photo in the initial session of the seminar, Ph.D candidates and foreign
master course students report their progress in English, followed by presentations
by Japanese master course and undergraduate project students in Japanese
session. Foreign students are requested to attend only the English session.
Discussion among students are also encouraged.
In order to foster good relationships among the members of the laboratory,
the following events are organized by M1 students. We hope that you will
actively participate in these events, as it is very important for us to
help each other in our research.
* Welcome parties (April, October)
In April, we hold a welcome party for new members, including graduate students, and in October, we hold a welcome party mainly for new international students. z Laboratory Alumni Party (April, October)
* Laboratory Alumni Reunion (July)
In July, we hold the annual alumni reunion of our laboratory. Many alumni, including former faculty members and current students, attend the reunion.
* Summer trip (summer vacation)
We usually hold a two-day and one-night summer trip (camp) in September.
* Participation in academic conferences
Students who are in the first year of a master's course or above and give a presentation at the Coastal Engineering Conference in November are mainly invited to this conference. In addition, presenters also participate in international conferences such as the Ocean Development Symposium, the Japan Coastal Society Research Conference, the International Coastal Symposium, ICCE, and ISOPE in June or July.
* Laboratory Ski Trip
We used to go on a ski trip for two days and two nights (in most cases,
one of the two nights is spent in the bus) after the review meeting for
the graduation thesis, but we have not been able to go on such a trip in
recent years.
* Farewell parties (March, September)
The graduation ceremony in March is followed by a classroom graduation ceremony, a thank-you party, and a laboratory farewell party, and the celebration continues until late at night.
