The characteristics of our laboratory are that the faculty members specialize in transportation planning, transportation engineering, and urban planning, that we conduct research in overseas fields including developing countries, and that we have many international students, so we hold seminars in English on a regular basis. In the field of urban planning, we are exploring how people's behavior changes with the development of transport infrastructure, how urban structures change accordingly, and how cities can be made more walkable and attractive to public transport users, in cities in Japan and overseas. If you like discovering the attractions and issues of cities by going out and walking around the city, please join us and let's explore how we can take advantage of these attractions and how we should tackle these issues.
Transportation is not only an essential part of our daily lives, but also plays an extremely important role in supporting various urban activities. In order to solve traffic-related problems such as traffic accidents and congestion, as well as to realize comfortable and livable cities with low environmental impact, it is necessary to accurately understand the phenomena, then to plan design, and operate transportation systems in an appropriate manner within the city. In our research unit, we conduct research to explore better cities and transportation systems by analyzing transportation phenomena, analyzing user behavior and awareness, and analyzing the relationship between urban activities and transportation. We welcome everyone who loves transportation, wants to solve various urban problems, and wants to create attractive cities.
