Research Overview

In this laboratory, students propose their own research interests, which are then compiled into Bachelor's theses, Master's theses, and Doctoral dissertations. Recent research topics include urban planning, public transportation operation and management, transportation demand management, urban transportation research and analysis, traffic capacity, traffic accident prevention evaluation, and pedestrian space analysis around traffic nodes.
Our research interests are not only domestic, but also extend to global regions.

How to proceed with the research

Every two weeks, the students report the progress of their research to their supervisors and have an opportunity to discuss it at laboratory meetings.
One or two papers will be submitted and presented at conferences during the year.
・Japan Society of Civil Engineers(JSCE)
・Japan Society of Traffic Engineers(JSTE)
・The City Planning Institute of Japan (CPIJ)
・International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences(IATSS) etc.
At the end of each semester or academic year, professors review research progress.

Seminar

English Seminar: Senior Undergraduates, First and Second Year Master's Students

○○○○○○○○イメージThere are two types of English seminars: a seminar in which students translate and introduce English articles on transportation and urban planning, and a seminar in which students read English textbooks on transportation engineering and urban planning in order to deepen their understanding of the subject. In addition to learning about English and transportation and urban planning, students can also learn about transportation and urban planning from the perspectives of other countries as well as Japan.
In the English seminar for the second half of the fourth year undergraduate students and the second year master's students, students translate and explain English papers related to their own research.

Seminar on Analysis: Senior Undergraduates, First Year Master's Students

This seminar is for students to learn about analysis, which is essential for research. Students can acquire practical analytical skills by actually handling and analyzing data collected by themselves. There is also a seminar to learn about multivariate analysis.

Traffic Engineering Seminar: Senior Undergraduates

○○○○○○○○イメージ

The Traffic Engineering Seminar is a weekly seminar to study traffic engineering in order to obtain the “TOP” (Traffic Operations Practitioner certified by JSTE) certification in traffic engineering. Students who take the Traffic Engineering course in the fall semester of their third year of undergraduate study will have a better understanding of the seminar.

Transportation Planning Seminar: Senior Undergraduates

The Transportation Planning Seminar is a seminar to study transportation planning by reading textbooks on transportation planning in rotation and asking questions about the content of the slides that have been prepared in advance.
